COMPETITION
Competiton «Talent de Demain»
Ouest-France and the City of Dinard are setting up a Ouest-France Talent of Tomorrow jury. The five young people selected will have the chance to see films in competition and to deliberate on their prize.
Being There
Tales of unexpected situations in life: a chance meeting leading to love; the grind of rejection; a tragic encounter and rampant self-interest, all capture life changing moments that pivot lives – at times with tears and at others with smiles.
Irish Eyes in Dinard
Once again we present new dramas and an animation from Ireland, our significantly connected but separate neighbour – A film noir, a love story, a dark family legacy and a multinational celebration of female empowerment.
It’s a Family Affair
Families – you can love them, you can hate them, but you can’t ignore them. Eight very different stories, each one a discovery of the complexities of family life and its absurdities, tragedies, affection, yearning and reconciliation.
Discovering Carol Morley
After bringing international recognition to Joanna Hogg, this year’s Dinard British Film Festival is turning the spotlight on another filmmaker: “Discovering Carol Morley”, through four of her films: Dreams of a Life (2011), The Falling (2014), Out of Blue (2019), based on Martin Amis’ Night Train, and her latest, Typist Artist Pirate King (2023).
The Past is a Foreign Country
The opening line of The Go-Between, is used ironically. British colonial history in Palestine and Northern Ireland (Shoshana, Dead Shot); The class system (Mad About the Boy) the devastation of Hiroshima (Kensuke’s Kingdom); the comical search for treasure (Detectorists) live on in our present.
Dinard ❤ Cinema
Documentaries illustrating the rich and varied history of cinema, from the heady days of the Cannes Film Festival to a razor-sharp reading of the films of Alfred Hitchcock, via the craziness of a London cinema, the career of Ken Loach and films shots in Brittany.
