Édimbourg, 1810. Deux enseignantes se retrouvent au cœur d'un scandale lorsqu'une riche aristocrate inscrit dans leur pensionnat sa petite-fille « illégitime » de 15 ans, arrivée d'Inde. Edinburgh 1810: Two teachers find themselves at the centre of a scandal when a wealthy aristocrat enrols her “illegitimate” 15-year-old grandchild from India to their boarding school. Jane Cumming’s isolation leads her to make an accusation that changes all their lives. The teachers are forced to challenge prejudice and defend their reputations. Their legal fight would last years and scandalise the Scottish establishment. Based on true events which also inspired Lillian Hellman's classic play and William Wyler’s film The Children's Hour.
